Too Many Pages with Identical Meta Descriptions

Based on Bing Webmaster Tools report, if you are seeing the "Too many pages with identical meta descriptions" error because Bing's crawler has identified pages on your blog for instance mine (pakiviewson.blogspot.com) that share the exact same meta description text.

Even though you may have added individual descriptions in Blogger, this issue typically happens for a few common reasons on Blogspot platforms:

1. Default Homepage Description Bleeding into Archive or Label Pages

If your Blogger theme or layout settings are configured to use your blog's main meta description as a fallback for index pages, category labels, or monthly archives, Bing will flag them as duplicates. The report highlights three specific URLs:

  • Your homepage: https://pakiviewson.blogspot.com/

  • A 2009 post: https://pakiviewson.blogspot.com/2009/11/capital-talk-targeted-let-us-build.html

  • Another 2009 post: https://pakiviewson.blogspot.com/2009/09/electricity-failure-is-there-any.html

If the individual search description box wasn't properly saved or published for those specific older posts, Blogger automatically falls back to using the blog's main description for them, causing the duplication.

2. Missing Post-Specific Search Descriptions

In Blogger, writing text inside the post editor's regular body doesn't automatically create a meta description. You have to ensure the Search Description field is actively filled out in the post settings sidebar on the right side of the editor. If it's left blank, Blogger may pull the first few lines of the post or default to a site-wide fallback.

3. URL Variations or Trailing Slashes

Sometimes Blogger generates multiple versions of the same page (such as HTTP vs. HTTPS, or URLs with parameters like ?m=1 for mobile views). If Bing crawls these variations without proper canonical tags pointing to the primary URL, it can perceive them as separate pages sharing the exact same meta description.

How to Fix It:

  1. Check the Post Settings in Blogger: Go to your Blogger dashboard, open those specific 2009 blog posts, and check the Search Description panel on the right-hand menu. Make sure they have unique, custom descriptions entered rather than relying on a default fallback.

  2. Enable Search Preferences: Ensure that Home Page Search Description is turned on under your main Blogger Settings > Basic menu, and that it is distinctly different from the content inside your individual posts.

  3. Request a Re-crawl: Once you update the meta descriptions in Blogger, go back to Bing Webmaster Tools and use the URL inspection or request a validation/re-scan feature so Bing can update its index with your new, unique descriptions.
